Awards

 


In order to stimulate the involvement of young scientists and engineers in IFAC, as well as to recognize top-level contributions of the younger generation in our field and to support their careers, IFAC will stimulate to have a Young Author Award at every IFAC symposium and conference.


Event organizers are requested to install such an award on the basis of the following guidelines:

  1. The award will be referred to as the “IFAC Young Author Award”
  2. It is awarded at IFAC symposia and conferences, for the best paper of which the first and presenting author satisfies the eligibility criterion and is the main contributor of the research results in the
  3. As eligibility criteria the conference/symposium organizers can choose between two alternatives:
    1. an age criterion of max 30 years old at the time of the event, for the first and presenting author of a paper, with motivated exemptions on the age criterion to deal with gender and cultural differences so as to allow for a fair competition, or
    2. a criterion on the PhD-student status of the first and presenting author, at the time of paper

The chosen eligibility criterion is communicated on the conference/symposium website.

  1. The following submission/nomination procedure is followed that is supported by Papercept:
    1. The award is announced on the website of the conference/symposium
    2. Nominations are solicited through Papercept after the submission of papers has been
    3. No self-nominations are Nominations are typically made by supervisors or reviewers.
    4. An awards selection committee, appointed by the IPC chair, selects a number of finalists, on the basis of the nomination letters, the review reports, and the papers. Finalists are informed before the
    5. The selection committee selects a winner out of the finalists, after having attended the presentation of the paper at the
    6. The award is presented preferably at a plenary event during the conference/symposium.
  2. The IFAC secretariat will prepare a standard certificate in an appropriate IFAC style, leaving room for a local logo/graphic of the particular event. The winner as well as all finalists are provided with a
